For MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) machines in hospitals, special non-magnetic bearings are used for optimal medical scanning performance. Axial-Kugellager sind in Einrichtungs- und Zweirichtungstypen aufgeteilt. Ersterer kann axiale Belastungen in einer Richtung aufnehmen, während Letzterer diese Lasten in beiden Richtungen aufnehmen kann. Keiner von beiden kann für Anwendungen eingesetzt werden, bei denen Radiallasten oder hohe Drehzahlen eine Rolle spielen. Dieser Lagertyp wird gemeinhin in der Automobilindustrie, Luft- und Raumfahrtechnik und im Schiffsbetrieb eingesetzt.
